We examine living arrangements—parental, spousal and child coresidence and those living alone—across 21 European countries, using the Eurostat’s Labour Force Survey (EULFS) data to highlight regional variations by age and sex, and changes between 2006 and 2016. We target three main aspects of living arrangements throughout the life course: parental coresidence among those in their late twenties; single parenthood; and lone living. Significant variations of family remain within Europe, shaped by life events surrounding the transition to adulthood. Early transition to adulthood and lone living are common in Northern and Western Europe. Southern Europeans are characterized by late union formation and childbearing.
