According to Wright's model, class location and class practice have great effect upon class consciousness. However, there are many different factors that may affect class consciousness in a society. Perhaps state is one of the factors. Because the speciality of public sector, individuals employed by public sector have different relationship between capitalist and private profit than those in the private sector. It could constitute a significant division of class consciousness. Therefore the purpose of this study is how the difference between public and private sector affect class consciousness. In real analysis, public sector is distinguished into the state political sector and the state service sector. Private sector is distinguished into profit sector and nonprofit sector. Class consciousness is distinguished into class identity, attitudes to capitalism and to state intervention. We hope this study can make the class image in Taiwan more clear. In this study, we use “2000 Taiwanese Social Change Survey”. From the result, though the differences between each sector are not very obvious, we can still find several differences. First, in the aspect of class identity, both middle class and working class in the public sector have less identity towards working class than those in the private sector. Second, in the aspect of the attitude of capitalism, both middle class and working class in the public sector are more supportive towards capitalism than those in the private sector. Third, in the aspect of the attitude towards state intervention, both middle class and working class in the public sector are more supportive towards state intervention than those in the private sector. Finally, within each class, people in the nonprofit sector are less supportive towards capitalism and are more supportive towards state intervention than those in the profit sector
