Since 2000, the innovation of technology in music industry and the rise of digital streaming have had a huge impact on the music industry. Music artists no longer need to rely on mainstream record companies to release their works. In this process, female songwriter earns more autonomy in the music production system, and demonstrate more authentic female writing experience in their works, thereby changing the situation in the music industry and introducing a way of self-empowerment. This study regards music creation as a process of "construction," within the concept of "Écriture féminine" proposed by postmodern feminist scholar Hélène Cixous, and analyzes how female songwriter use "writing by the voice" to make sound a way to convey female consciousness, reconstruct or reproduce the female experience. The research method adopts the qualitative method of in-depth interviews integrating with text analysis methods to conduct in-depth interviews with five female independent music artists in the music industry.

The study found that after the transformation of technology in music industry, the "decentralization" of the music industry has made female songwriter more active in the industry. The focus of the music market has blurred the boundaries between independent and pop music. Independent music is no longer a disadvantage in the music industry. Compared with mainstream music, it more fully demonstrates the autonomy and independence of music creation and production. Contemporary female independent artists write women's life experiences through "voice." The works are intertwined with concerns of different issues such as ethnicity, national identity, and gender identity providing a feminist space for shared female experience.
