E-sport players have a long training time and have to be assembled in the training places. They have limited time to share with their parents. The study attempts to explore the relationship between E-players and their parents and to suggest how to improve the relationship between E-players and their parents.
This research adopts a qualitative approach by conducting semi-structured interviews. Five E-players and their parents were interviewed. All contacted E-players are male with age from 16 to 21. They currently are students’ study in vocational high schools and technical colleges. Four of them are team members in the vocational teams, and the other one is a player in the training plan supported by the Department of Sports.
This study obtains several findings. First, because the E-sport players’ parents were not familiar with E-sports, they had high concern about the prospects of their children. The parents thought that E-sport players had a lifestyle which led to their reduced interaction time. Furthermore, with increased use of e new media and Esports, the interviewers reported that they had a better parent-child relationship. The findings additionally showed the siblings’ support, and the use of social media was helpful for the parent-child relationship. In conclusion, the communication between parents and children plays a very important role in the parent-child relationship.
