The Sunflower Insurgence”(SI), which happened in March of 2014, is a significant student political mobilization aimed at stopping the service industries trading agreement between Taiwan and China. Not only the movement gained immediate national as well as international attention, scholarly probes had constantly been poured into this event even long after its aftermath.

Also known as “the 318”, SI attracts both media and academic interests. Though with at least half of its participants were women students, researches have paid almost no attention to the gender dimension of this movement.

This research aims to fill the void of gender blindness in the research of social movement (including student uprisings) in Taiwan. Using 318 as a case, I study the female participants in a holistic perspective to tell their (our) stories. Combing my personal experience into the narrative, I hope the “voices” of women can be heard through this effort.

12 Women are contacted and interviewed, data collected from participant observation are also incorporated into this research. The findings are:

1.Teaching styles of parents will affect the personality of these women students.

2.Almost all women students have strong humanitarian concerns.

3.The majority of them is from the social science and humanities.

4.They becoming more politically inclined as a result of participation.
