成年期閱讀行為之研究

依據文化部公布之〈105年臺灣出版產業調查暨106年閱讀及消費趨勢分析〉,臺灣民眾閱讀圖書的比率由104年的56.4%下降至105年的54.1%,民眾真正拿起書來閱讀的行為有越來越少的現象。
本研究資料來自2007年第五期第三次台灣社會變遷基本調查之休閒組調查,有效樣本包括2,084人,研究依變項為閱讀行為,自變項為Erikson成年期心理社會發展階段,分析方法為羅吉斯迴歸 (logistic regression)。本研究嘗試以Erikson的心理社會發展理論來瞭解成年期的閱讀行為,並以此作為推廣成年人閱讀的動力。
研究發現,成年期在不同的心理社會發展階段會有不同的閱讀行為。成年早期 (20-39歲) 偏好閱讀「漫畫書、武俠偵探、娛樂時尚、愛情文藝、家庭教育」的書籍種類;成年中期 (40-64歲) 偏好閱讀「理財財經、科學資訊、傳記歷史、心靈宗教、古今文學」的書籍種類;成年晚期 (65歲以上) 偏好閱讀「傳記歷史、古今文學、心靈宗教」的書籍種類。
研究顯示,成年期的閱讀行為可以嘗試以Erikson心理社會發展理論來進行了解,表示個體在面對各發展階段的任務及危機時,除了嘗試各種解決方式外,也會嘗試以閱讀的方式來學習各階段成長所需的知識。期望籍由本研究的發現,能提供作為推廣成年期閱讀的動力。

As reported by The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of China, the 2015 Research on Taiwanese Publishing Industries and the 2016 Reading and Consumer Tendency Analysis, the percentage of Taiwanese citizens actively reading has declined from 56.4% 2015 to 54.1% in 2016, indicating that less and less people are picking up books to read.

Data of this research are originated from the 2007 Taiwan Social Change Survey, including an island-wide sample of 2,084 respondents. The dependent variable in the study is reading behavior of adult respondents in Taiwan, and the independent variable are socio-economic and other demographic variables as developed from Erikson’s adult stages of psychosocial development theory. The analysis is utilized the logistic regression model and attempts to explain adult reading behavior via Erikson’s psychosocial theory of development, with means to encourage adult reading motivation.

Discoveries from this research suggest specific reading behaviors arise according to different stages of the psychosocial development in adulthood. Subjects of Young Adult (aged 20-39) prefer reading materials such as comics, Chinese martial arts and mystery novels, entertainment and fashion, romantic fiction or literature arts and home education, while those of Mid Adult (aged 40-64) opt for books including topics on finance and management, science and information, history and biographies, religion and faith, or ancient and modern literature; lastly, subjects of Older Adult (aged 65 and above) favor books that are also inclusive of history and biographies, religion and faith, or ancient and modern literature.
Research reveals adult reading behavior can be comprehended through Erikson’s psychosocial theory of development, stating that individuals faced with tasks and risks stemming from certain development stages may not only attempt to come up with possible solutions themselves, but solicit knowledge necessary for growth in various phases in life via reading. In light of these research findings, we may hope to inspire and anticipate the increase of reading in the adult phase.
