Abstract
Subject:The Effect of Soical Network on Interpersonal Relationship and Self Concept: A Case Study of Facebook Among Students in Junior High School
The purpose of this research is to investigate the correlation between social networking and interpersonal interaction and self identity among junior high school students. The subjects are students in grade seven and eight in New Taipei City. The researcher adopts cluster sampling to collect 209 valid questionnaires. The gathered data are analyzed by several statistical procedures, such as descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation and Regression analysis. The major findings are as follows:
1.The male students spend more time on network than female students do.
2.The most people among the subjects surf the Internet once a week, others do so everyday. In average, time spent on the Internet is less an hour. Furthermore, the most popular function of the Internet is entertainment.
3.The motivation, frequency and average time of using Facebook have nothing to do with gender or grade.
4. People are motivated to use Facebook by interpersonal interaction and self identity. The average time per day shows positive correlation with peer relationship. The function, information sharing, is correlation with the relationship between parents and children.
5.Regression analysis in relationship shows negative correlation between the relationship between children and parents and average time of using Facebook per day. The peer-relationship is connected with gender, self motivation and average using time.
6.Regression analysis in self identity illustrates that the physiology of self identity is related with gender and interpersonal motivation. The social self identity is related with interpersonal motivation.
