  • Abstract

The study aims to explore the influence of different marriage mating on the aspects of intergenerational giving and receiving relationship, and also to analyze its influence towards the variation of different genders, individuals, family factors and family values.

The primary data was compiled from Academia Sinica "Taiwan social change Survey - social class" in 2006. In this study, the original data sample has 2102 people; however, we exclude divorcees, couples in cohabitation, single people, those who are separated and widowed, and people with parents that have passed away. As the result, the effective sample is reduced to married couples only of which there are 798 people who meet the said criteria.

The results show that in comparison married people with “strong ties”, those with “weak ties” and couples who did not use matchmakers have more utilizable supports to their parents; and from the aspect of utilizable supports from parents, married people who did not use matchmakers have greater supports than those married people with “strong ties”. The influence from parents for their children to choose their married partners are significantly correlated to children have both utilizable and mental supports to their parents; and their parents have utilizable and mental supports to their children. We conclude that the higher influence of parents to their children’s married partners, the closer bond of intergenerational giving and receiving relationship.
