Findings reveal that bisexuals commonly face dual stigma and marginalization from both dominant heterosexual society and gay/lesbian communities. To further analyze their positions within the LGBTQ+ community, this study develops four ideal types of bisexual identity—dual-strong, bi-strong/gay-weak, gay-strong/bi-weak, and ambiguous-shifting—to illustrate diverse strategies of boundary-making between reference groups.Overall, this study conceptualizes bisexual identity formation as a process of boundary-making within systems of social categorization. In everyday life, bisexual individuals often engage in low-density and low-visibility identity practices, adjusting the intensity and duration of their visibility based on situational contexts. This flexible and agentive approach highlights bisexual identity as a relational classificatory practice.
