臺灣男性看護工之心聲—男子氣概策略探究

  • 傳統認為照顧工作是「女性的工作」,而這少數的男性又是什麼原因踏入這個領域,進而想藉由研究臺灣男看護工的男子氣概,證明在宣稱兩性平等的臺灣,是否已漸漸鬆動傳統性別角色刻板印象而能從事女性照顧服務工作值得探究其原因。

本研究係以質性研究深度訪談暨參與觀察法訪談14名從事照顧工作的男人,研究發現他們的男子氣概大致分為三種類型:一為傳統型、二為蛻變型、三為現代型。而這三種類型的男人是傳統父權體制下的受害者,導致他們傷痕累累,只是程度上的差異。

本研究意義之所在係針對在照顧領域裡的男性他們的男子氣概是如何受到衝擊、影響及傷害,以及他們是如何運用行動策略去彌補他們受損的男子氣概。另一方面研究者透過此研究,發現整個照顧行業之所以被貶值,主因為它密切地與女性連結在一起,這種性別標籤化的日常生活慣習,使得此行業難以翻身!研究者希望透過此研究,政府能正視相關問題,改善照顧工作的訓練、條件與福利升遷等,提升其專業化與去性別化,藉以翻轉此行業弱勢之處,讓照顧工作能夠真正去女性化,照顧工作之窘境才能真正獲得改善。

  • Traditionally, it is thought that the work of care belongs to women. Why do less men enter this field? The purpose of this study is to analyze if male care takers with masculinity have loosened gradually in “gender role stereotypes” of female care takers in claiming gender equality’s Taiwan.

This study uses in-depth interview and participant observation of qualitative research method to visit and discuss with fourteen male care takers. It’s found that their masculinities can be divided into three types in substance: Traditional type, Metamorphosis type, Modern type. Those men of three types are victims under Traditional Patriarchy System which causes them hurt, only differences in degree.

The point of this study focuses on how those men in caring field are attacked, affected and hurt on masculinity and how they use their action strategy to make up traumatized masculinity. On the other side, through this study, it is found that the main belittled reason of caring industry connects closely with female. Because of gender labeling in daily life, it is hard to raise the status of this industry. Researcher hopes that government can face such problem through improving training, conditions of caring work and welfare promotion to advance specialization and de-gender and reverse its weakness. Then the caring work can be de-feminization and its plight can be improved.
