  • We have 7.1% elderly population in 1993. In Taiwan, it takes only in 7 years form aged society to super-aging society while other countries take much more time. Taiwan’s high medical standards lengthen life expectancy. We have less and less new-born babies while we live longer and longer. The plummeted fertility rate makes “Who will take care of the elderly” become the most important social issue. In this study, I want to understand how the family values influence the responsibility of the elderly-caring. The sample data comes from "Taiwan Social Change Survey Project 2011 Basic sixth second: Family Group"(TSCS QuestionnaireⅠ). With the traditional, the caring parents' responsibility is the duty of sons’ wives. Now with the increase of women’s education years and female working rates, sons and their wives take care of sons’ parents together. In this study, first,I found the elder males with traditional family values still want their sons to take care of themselves. Second, women or the persons with higher education tend to share the duty of caring parents. Third, the health and income of parents, children age, marriage, sex, income, years of education and having the third generation will affect the attitude of taking care responsibility. Forth, parents who live with their children are fewer and fewer. They want to live by themselves or with their couples, and they like to retain each space.
