Q&A for Freshmen of Master's Program 

Q: I just entered NTPU, what Facebook groups can I get to know more about the university? A: NTPU Institute of Sociology, Department of Sociology, NTPU Freshmen, NTPU Department of Sociology - Sociology yet? 

Q:【Information Window and Contact Channel】How can I learn more about your school's teaching and activities? A:The best way to find out is to follow the department's FB fan page. There is also a wealth of information on the department's website. For questions, you can contact us through our fan page. The department has positioned the FB fan page as a platform for sharing sociological knowledge. In addition to announcing the department's regular activities (e.g., academic lectures, international exchanges, and course activities), the content includes faculty and student research profiles, reports on local developments of Sanyin area, and career portraits related to the Department of Sociology. It also includes light-hearted and interesting topics such as " Movies and Sociology", "Those Days I Spent Abroad", or practical information such as "Sharing of Master Program Experience". 

Q: How do I find out about the borrowing process and space usage rules in the department (print things out in the small assistant's office)? A: Graduate students can go to the small assistant room to print out materials. For space and borrowing related matters, please ask TA Tsai-Wei Chiu at the department office. 

Q: [ Helpful to my work ] After receiving training from your institute, will it help me in any way in my work? 

The focus of social studies training is on research methods. The research specialty, when applied to the media or political field, is called polling, and when applied to the private sector, is called marketing surveys, market research, corporate data analysis, and has close links to marketing and advertising. In addition, basic training in sociology can be linked to a wide range of practical applications, including criminal studies, education, business administration, statistics, advertising, communication, public administration, gender equality, social welfare, cultural publishing, community planning, etc. 

 

Q:【Activities】Do you have any mid-semester activities? 

Each semester, the department has a mentor-student gathering in the first semester and an orientation dinner in the second semester. Many faculty members will attend these two events and you can also get familiarized with fellow seniors and juniors of the department.  

Q:How do I find out about various clubs or student organizations at Taipei University? A:You can check the school's website to find out about various clubs or student organizations by following the information of their fan page. 

 

Q:What scholarships can graduate students apply for? A: 

1. Scholarship for Master's Program :The first place winner of the Master's Program admission examination and the general examination who is enrolled in the current academic year, if the winner is not enrolled in the program, he/she will be replaced by the next place winner in order till the 3rd place winner. Scholarship for the first academic year is NT$50,000 per student. The second scholarship is for five-year program students who are admitted through the admissions process. one student will be awarded with a scholarship of NT$50,000. The third scholarship is for students having outstanding academic performance in the first and second years, who have taken two or more courses in the previous semester, and the average grade of the previous semester is used. 

The scholarship for the master's thesis program will be awarded in the amount of NT$3,500 per person if the following conditions are met:  

First-time M.A. first- or second-year publishers whose papers have been reviewed and passed.  

First-time M.A. first- or second-year publishers whose papers have been reviewed and conditionally passed and later been approved by their advisors as "officially passed" before the end of the semester. 

Emergency Relief: Individuals or their families who have suffered sudden changes and lost their financial resources, resulting in hardship. The student's family or individual is in a difficult financial situation. The instructor will report the student in need of assistance. The department head will convene a review panel to determine the amount of aid. 

Scholarship for needy students: Students from needy families or those who have experienced family difficulties. Students must have an academic average of 70 or above (no limit for freshmen). The number and amount of scholarships will be determined by the review panel each semester, depending on the amount of funds available, and will be announced before applications are accepted. The application date for the scholarship is announced every semester. Applicants must submit an application form with a description of their family's financial situation to the department. 

The award for participation in academic research will be 1. $2,000 per article for those who apply for the Ministry of Science and Technology's Class A College Student Program. 2. For publication in Class B foreign-language journals, each article will be awarded NT$8,000. 3. For publication in Class B domestic academic journals, each article will be awarded NT$6,000. 4. For publication in Class C foreign academic symposiums, each article shall be awarded NT$4,000. 5.Publishing in Class C domestic academic symposium, each article will be awarded NT$2,000.
